I learned something this weekend.  It’s not the discovery of an unlimited power source, nor is it the 23 secret flavors in Dr. Pepper. The meaning of life?  Sorry, I already knew that was 42.  What I actually learned is that I have the ability to sing Karaoke without being under the influence of spirits.   I also now have one groupie, which is pretty sweet I guess.

I had a group of friends hit The Hub in Tripoli, IA this past weekend for a night of Karaoke.  I had prior plans, so I did not actually arrive on the scene until after 11.  For those who do Karaoke, you’ll know that some nights there will be a big percentage of quality singers and that can make those of us with no so strong voices feel a little intimidated.   Well, on this night there was a good mix of quality and everybody was just having a good time, which is the way it should be.

  1. All I really want for lunch today is wilted spinach.
  2. I enjoyed listening to that NPR segment on the deregulation of credit default swaps.
  3. Toy Story 3 was the best film I saw this year.
  4. Why does that tire pressure warning light keep coming on when all of my tires are at 33 PSI? I must get to the bottom of this!

I love western movies.  So far in my medium-length life, Unforgivin was my favorite western.    Truth be told, I think it still is.  However currently running a very close second is True Grit.   This is the Coen brothers True Grit staring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld.  I’ve seen it twice now and so should you.  The activing is top notch.  Jeff Bridges should easily be up for multiple leading actor awards and Matt Damon easily held his own as well.  He’s a great actor.  Hailee Steinfeld, who plays 14 year old Mattie Ross is fantastic.  She has been compared to Judy Garland and I think I can agree.  Go see this movie.
